PCSX2 was the very first PlayStation 2 emulator. Through continuous development, it’s stayed the very best one around! Game compatibility is quite high. It handily comes armed with its plug-ins, which can be customized. PCSX2 needs a quick computer to be able to operate well. You may have trouble using it if you’re using a budget laptop or even a Windows tabletcomputer.
Together with different emulators you can eliminate using your computer keyboard . But with PCSX2 it’s pretty difficult, provided the PlayStation 2 control’s miniature joysticks. I strongly recommend purchasing a gamepad with this emulator.
Do not download PCSX2 out of their Website
The downloading of PCSX2 in the official site has not been updated recently. Instead, you will find the most newest releases of this emulator from this’automated builds’ page.
Intro to plug in system
PlayStation 2 emulation revolves round the plug-in system. The same system utilized by PlayStation 1 and N64 emulators. PlayStation emulators are merely the shell of this surgery.
PCSX2 comes armed with plug-ins, and therefore you don’t need to think about downloading them separately and configuring them manually. I want to reassess the different types of plug-ins along with you. It is great to be informed with the way the emulator works. Here is the list of these:
- GS – that the picture plug-in. This controls the graphics and 3D rendering. This controls the way you control your games; whether you use a keyboard or a gamepad. This controls the audio and sound effects. This controls the reading of your CDs/DVDs or images.
- USB – that the USB plugin. This controllers USB emulation. This controls that the firewire port of the PlayStation 2.
- DEV9 – that the hard disk & Ethernet plug-in. This controls the HDD (hard disk drive) and Ethernet emulation.
Note that you don’t have to stay with the plug-ins that arrive with PCSX2. You could find better ones on the market if you Google around.
The PlayStation 2 BIOS is needed to be able to boot matches. This is a separate download once you have downloaded PCSX2. Below you may download this particular BIOS.
If you don’t see the document extension, consider showing them.

Newer variants of PCSX2 are standalone programs inside a zip file. Older versions of PCSX2 install by means of a wizard. I’ll explain both scenarios.
Installing the stand alone program (newer versions)
Setup is easy: simply extract PCSX2 from the zip file. Not certain how to extract zip files?
IMPORTANT! PCSX2 must be set in a common folder on your computer. I recommend Records , Downloads, or create a folder on your desktop computer. If you place PCSX2 someplace else on your primary C drive, then you could be limiting it to read-only access. Doing this prevents PCSX2 from saving anything.
First Time Configuration + BIOS setup
- Open PCSX2 from double-clicking on. If you installed PCSX2 having an install wizard, then you would open it by going to your Start menu (your programs record ) and open up PCSX2 there.
- PCSX2 welcomes you with the First Time Configuration screen. Click Next.
- The following screen only reviews the plug-ins which arrive with PCSX2. You don’t have to do anything . Click on Next.
- Next is your BIOS display. Click Open from Explorer, as shown below:You’ll be prompted with a”This path doesn’t exist. Create it? ” window. Click Generate.
- Now minimize this”First Time Configuration” window. Notice the path where the BIOS folder is situated. Open up that folder. Download the BIOS when you have not previously, unzip it, and then drag its contents to the BIOS folder. It should appear something similar to below:
- It is important that you match the above screenshot on your conclusion. Don’t place the BIOS files in a sub folder inside the BIOS folder!
- Bring back the”First Time Configuration” window. Click on the Refresh list button (circled below). You should now see the Europe, Japan, and USA BIOS files appear in the white box.
- Click on your preferred country to select it. Then click Finish.
- That’s it! PCSX2 is now completely configured and installed.
- Preparing the computer keyboard or gamepad
- Normally emulators have all the keyboard keys preconfigured, however, PCSX2’s keys are a fresh slate the very first time you open it! You don’t have any option except to configure them. Again, I urge you to purchase a gamepad since the PlayStation 2 controller features lots of buttons. Using only the keyboard is a frustrating experience.
